GLEN QUERL FOR SENIOR COACH

Railway Union CC are extremely happy to announce that Zimbabwean-born Glen Querl has officially been signed as Senior Player/Coach for the 2019 season.

Querl who represented Zimbabwe at Under-19s level in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, also made his first-class cricket debut for Matabeland Tuskers against South Rocks in 2011 when he claimed an astonishing nine wickets in his first match. Having played county cricket for both Hampshire and Essex, he is also an ICC Level 3 coach.

The 30 year old will now turn his immediate attention to the fortunes of the Railway Union CC Men’s First XI season, as the squad eye up their opening fixtures in Group A of the Senior League Cup. Crucially, his efforts will be notably aided by the signing of Pakistani Test opener Sami Aslam as overseas professional. Querl will also be heavily involved in youth coaching.

Glenn’s appointment is made possible with support from Rangan Arulchelvan; former player, long-time supporter, and great friend of our club.

NEW 2019 CRICKET ACADEMY

We are delighted to launch our Cricket Academy where we will provide an environment to help young cricketers master technique and maximise their potential in a fun, positive environment. It will be intensive coaching geared toward each individual player. It will be technique based but will also include cricket-based S&C, player mentoring, video analysis as well as the mental approach to cricket. Our coaching team includes Pakistani test cricketer Sami Aslam, ex Irish International Kenny Carroll, Glen Querl a Zimbabwean level 3 coach and first-class cricketer, and Kevin O’Herlihy, CUS Director of Cricket, who has a proven track record in player development.

Family Fun Day – Save the Date

The “Family Fun Day”, is scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday 12th of May. The sun (hopefully!) will shine, there will be a men’s cricket match against Malahide afoot for our entertainment, a minis cricket blitz lighting up the hockey pitch, BBQ, ice-cream, fun games, activities and more. We know that children and adults alike will love this event, seeing Railway transformed for the day!

Desperately Seeking Raffle Prizes

There are 2 different types of raffles that we hope to run at or around the Family Fun Day and the VPs’Lunch; the Big Square Raffle and the Children’s Raffle.

Children’s Raffle: Here our junior players sell tickets in teams IN ADVANCE with some great child-focused prizes up for grabs. The incentive being that the team who sell the most tickets also get a prize!!  We need to get tickets sales going soon, right from the Easter Camp, so early donations for this one are essential. Ideal prizes would be iPads, Xbox, Xbox gear, Gaming Chair, Headsets, Sports Hampers. The idea is that tickets can be sold to friends and family and neighbours outside of the Railway community in an effort to spread the fundraising load!!

50 Square Raffle: This is a high-end raffle, where someone buys a square (at a cost of E50 per square) and top prizes range from hotel stays to green fees to event tickets.  Other donations could be restaurant vouchers, cases of wine, shopping vouchers, blue book vouchers…all donations are greatly appreciated. The more donations we have the better the prize pool and an increased chance of winning.

The generosity and ingenuity of all is intrinsic to the success of the raffles so please help where you can! Please feel free to let us know at the email address below if there is any way you think you can help with donations. rufundraisecricket@gmail.com
