Launching ParaHockey at Railway Union

Railway Union are delighted to announce the launch of Railway Union’s first ParaHockey team the Railblazers! ParaHockey is inclusive hockey aimed at all children with intellectual disabilities and austistic spectrum disorders. Hockey is adapted to a child’s specific level of need in a fun and supportive environment.

All are welcome to join in the open session on Saturday 26th August 2017, from 10am-11am. Register your interest at rurailblazers@gmail.com.

International Representatives

Railway Union has been well represented at international hockey level this summer.

Grace O’Flanagan helped the Irish Senior women’s team to a 7th place finish in the World League 2 in Johannesburg. This brings the Irish Ladies a step closer to the 2018 World Cup. Read a review of the semi final, including Grace’s crucial penalty stroke save here.

Niamh Carey, Michelle Carey, Grace McLoughlin and Katie Fearon were in Spain representing the Irish U18’s. Ireland finished 4th in a very competitive tournament including a momentous win over England U18’s – Grace McLoughlin scoring the winner.

Amy Elliott and Sophia Cole represented the Irish U16’s at the 6 Nations Tournament in Spain. See the 16s and 18s results and match reports here.

Sports Club Events

Grand Re-Opening of the Refurbished Club House Facilities on Sunday 13th August

Extensive work has been underway to the RU grounds and clubhouse over the summer. The Grand Re-Opening of the Club House facilities will take place on Sunday 13th of August. Various activities across our sports will take place from 2pm. There will be a free BBQ at 4pm and our club chairman Barry Holmes will give a short speech about the work that has been done, and what will take place over the coming months. All members and supporters are invited to attend. This is a great opportunity to promote our club to existing members, potential new members and the local community.

Strictly Come Dancing Event

The Strictly Come Dancing event will take place in November (date to be confirmed soon). Each sport is asked provide a number of dancers. All budding dancers and dancing enthusiasts are asked to come forward. No experience required as full training will be provided starting in September. Let’s see if the Hockey Club can be the most successful RU club in the dance world too!

Summer Hockey

Summer hockey has been going very well this summer with up to 30 players coming down each week. Monday 31st July, 8-9pm will be the last week before the dreaded preseason begins. Last chance to dust off the cobwebs! Thank you to Kenny for organising.

IHA Level 1 Coaching Course

Places remain on the IHA Level 1 Coaching Course to be held in Railway on 11th, 12th, 13th of August. more information can be found here.
