On Saturday the 18th of June the ladies were beaten in a very close game 12 – 14 by Blackrock. Their next game is away to Leinster on the 9th of July.
On Tuesday the 21st of June the 1st team played Westmanstown away in the league. As is normal in games against these opponents this game was close all the way to the end. After 5 ends the score was 19 – 11. After 10 Ends 37 – 31. After 15 Ends 58 – 52 and after 18 ends 67 – 67. But with all rinks digging in we won 9 of the last 12 ends to win by 10 shots overall. So a very good 83 to 73 away win. (5 points to 2).
Adam’s rink of Tadhg, Tim and Carrick were in a tight match where they were 1 down after 8 and level after 15 ends at 13 – 13. but they lost 12 shots in the next 4 ends to put a point out of range. They won the last 2 ends when every point was needed to win the overall win. The final score was 15 – 25 .
Fiachra’s rink of John, Paddy, and Drew had a close start to the game and after 8 ends they were 6 – 5 up. But they only won 2 more ends and were beaten 10 – 27.
Derek’s rink of Paul, Jerry and Ultan were in a titanic tussle. 7 – 7 after 8. 10 -12 after 14 ends . But they only lost 1 of the last 7 ends and they won the rink 24 – 13 in the end.
Billy’s rink of Bryan, Graham and Zach started strongly winning the first 5 ends to lead 7 – 0.  Westmanstown did win 2 of the next 3 ends but a golden patch between the 9th to 12th end had Railway winning 21 – 3 after 12 ends. They only lost 5 ends overall and won 34 – 8 to help carry the rest of the team to the overall win.
On Saturday 25th of June the 1st team were away to Crumlin. Adam’s and Nigel’s rinks started quickly while Fiachra’s and Derek’s were holding their own. So after 7 ends it was looking good with Railway up nearly 30 points. Although Crumlin fought back against Nigel’s ring the other 2 Railway rings started to pull away and after 14 ends the game was almost over with Railway 32. By the 17 end the only question was would Nigel hold on for a 7 – 0 win. Unfortunately Nigel just lost  but it was still a good 108 to 63 away win. (6 points to 1).
Adam’s rink of Ian, Tim and Carrick started strongly with 2 x 5;s in the first 7 ends which had them leading 15 – 2. They controlled the match for the next 10 ends and had the game won after 17 ends leading 29 -13. Crumlin kept trying and won the last 4 ends with the final score being 29 -20.
Fiachra’s rink of Paddy, Frank and Zach had a close start to the game and after 8 ends they were 5 – 7 down. They came back to lead  12 – 10 after 13 ends before their superior youth paid off and they won 7 of the last 8 ends to finish up winning easily 28 – 11.
Derek’s rink of Paul, Jerry and Ultan were kept in check by the opposition skip at the start and were drawing 5 – 5 after 7 ends but that was as good as it got for Crumlin as Railway won 11 of the last 14 ends to win 30 – 9.
Nigel’s rink of Bryan, Paul K and Tadgh started strongly going 11 – 1 up after 6 ends but Crumlin fought back to 12 – 11 after 12 ends. Railway then got a 5 on the 13 to control the game again 17 – 11. They were still leading  21 – 17 after 18 but lost a 4 on the 19th end and lost a shot on each of the last 2 ends to finish 21 – 23.
The next game is on Saturday the 2nd of July at home to Skerries who are half a point ahead of us in the league so a must win game.  and on Sunday the Semi Final of the cup against CYM is being played in Greystones.
On Monday night the second teams match was away to Blackrock. Pat’s ring struggled against a very strong Blackrock rink which meant that the overall march looked out of reach from 10 ends on. Drew’s rink were only beaten unluckily on the last end. While Nigel brought home our one point but in a close match was not able to wipe out the deficit from the other 2 rinks. We ended up losing 40 – 53 overall.( 1 point to 5) The next game is at home to Dun Laoghaire  next Monday the 4th of July.
Drew’s rink of Rory, Brendan B and John H were in a tough battle. Although they never lead at any stage they were never more than 3 down at any stage and were 12 -13 down going into the last end. In Drew’s Words “I thought we had no chance, they managed to land a bowl right on the jack and it was tucked behind other bowls with only half the jack visible. We had nothing behind the jack as all our bowls were short. I asked John to play heavy, to try and knock any of our bowls behind the jack which he managed.I managed to play a luck shot, picked up the jack and somehow we were lying two shots for the game. Their skip was all over the place, but somehow managed to whicky off things all night, which was exactly what he done here with his first bowl to lie the shot. I couldn’t believe it. My only option was to try and take his bowl out, just clipped a bowl on the way in which threw it wide.” So after a very hard fought game they ended up losing 12- 15.
Pat’s ring of Brian, David and Tony were up against a very good Blackrock rink and struggled to stay with them from the start. After 6 ends the score was 4 – 7 . but Blackrock won the next 7 ends (including 2 x  5’s) to kill the game. Railway finished strongly winning the last 4 ends. The final score was 11 – 26.
Nigel’s rink of Brendan S, Viv and John were again in a dog fight. after 12 ends the score was 10 -10. Railway won the next 5 ends and ended up winning 17 -12 to give us our only point.
