THE Railway Under 18 boys are winding down this week after 11 years at the club. The side is going out with a bang as they have qualified to play local rivals Beechwood in the Stanno Cup final. This  takes place at the SDFL headquarters in Lucan on Friday 13th (8pm).
The boys and their parents marked the end of a glorious era with a well-attended dinner in the club last week, which saw a presentation of two tickets to Euro16 to their fantastic coach Abdalla Alzaid, and a floral tribute to tireless secretary Mary de Courcy. Abdalla made his own presentation to player of the year Derry O’Donovan and most improved player Fiachra Robinson.
The side was formed in 2005 by a group of parents with the help of their first coaches, RUFC legends Tommy and Stephen. Five of the boys have stayed through from the beginning: David O’Meara, Kevin Lequerica, Billy Siggins, Rian Dolphin-Moran and Sam Costello.
While the U18s have reached the end of the schoolboy road, it is hoped that many of this fine side will remain at the club in the adult football section
