Park Avenue Up and Running
After a complete washout on the first weekend in May, the sun shone on our 1st XI as they played on Park Avenue for the first time in 2016.
On Saturday, a brilliant captain’s innings of 83 from Kenny Carroll laid the platform for a good total after we won the toss and decided to bat against The Hills in a Division 1 clash. We slipped from 137 for 5 to 163 all out in the 48th over. Despite being at least 25 runs light, a spirited bowling performance made The Hills work hard to chase down the total for 6 wickets in the 46th over.
At the same time, the 5th XI were skittling Knockharley for 72. Impressive bowling figures were returned: Hadley Shouthall 2 for 9, F Zaman 4 for 7 and Graham Chisholm 2 for 1. A couple of good catches from Tyron Kritzinger and Sean Condron completed a good day in the field. The runs were knocked off in no time for the loss of one wicket ( Zaman 44 no and N. Jagoe 22).
The 2nd XI continued their winning form on Sunday under new skipper Dhram Singh. They won by 92 runs after posting an impressive 275. Abdullah Hafiz top scored with 86 on his return from Pakistan, he as supported well by Furquan and Umar. Despite a good start Dundrum were never really in the hunt. Spinners Hamza Mann, Dhram Singh and Eoghan Grehan took two wickets each to seal the deal in the 39th over.
In youth cricket, the Boys U13s had a good win against a strong Merrion team. David Wash impressed with some powerful strokes; scoring 30 runs in their victory. The U11s came up short against The Hills and Pembroke during the week despite some outstanding individual performances, none better than Rory Honan who got a hat trick out in the Vineyards. Well done Rory, the first of many!
