Bowl-out Kings Dethroned

This week’s update was delayed due to heartbreak over losing to Cork County CC in a bowl out in the Irish Senior Cup. It’s extra hard to take as we were in a very commanding position in the match when the rain came.

After loosing a couple of early wickets, including skipper and run machine K.E.D Carroll, Robin Russell (79) and Eoin Barron (39) put together a massive 137 run partnership. The middle order came to the party for the first time this season leaving Cork needing  232 off 42 overs; surely a winning total. Then the dark clouds rolled in from the West dumping their contents on our pitch and our hopes. The bowl out went 2:1 against us.

Elsewhere, more heart-breaking drama was unfolding at the Vineyard where our 2nds were playing The Hills between some heavy showers. A match with more swings than Bushy Park ended in the last over with the home team chasing down a DL revised total of 189 for the loss of 7 wickets. Young opener Alex Styles scored a stylish 41 runs and the Big C, Carlo Rendell, took 3 wickets in a gallant but fruitless effort.

The 3rds and 4ths were both rabandonded, in both case the rain was welcomed. The 3rds were given a fright by Longford who at 153 for 2 off 22 were doing a good job of chasing down an impressive 277 (S. Grehan 86, Hamza Mann 73, Kizer Khan 56). The 4th were 110 for 8  chasing 201 against Adamstown when their prayers were answered and the heavens opened.
