Dear members,
You may be aware that the Irish Times is running a competition to find the best sports club in Ireland. They are asking people to write short pitches (less than 500 words) for a club that they know and love, and you don’t have to be a member to nominate a club.
Rather than an official application by a committee they are asking for stories about why people are nominating a particular sports club and the nominations will be judged on community involvement, club spirit as well as sporting achievement. Examples given in the coverage include things like ‘It’s less like a sports club, more like a family’ (Martial Arts Academy), ‘A non-competitive ethos of fun, skills and cakes’ (Skerries Rugby Club), ‘Many GAA clubs boast top-class facilities – this is not one of them’ (GAA club, Co. Tipperary), ‘A pushy parent in reverse’ (Dundrum Athletics Club), ‘There is a place for everyone on the bowling green’ (Blackrock Bowling and Tennis Club).
Railway Union Hockey Club would like to encourage members to nominate Railway – anyone can make a nomination; players young and old, coaches, managers, volunteers, administrators, parents – the more diverse nominations the better!
Don’t forget to mention that we are a multi-sports club (unique in Ireland in the range of sports we offer), inclusive of gender, age, and nationality/ethnic background, level of ability, we focus on youth development and multi-sports environment for young people, local community-based but inclusive of people from all over Ireland and further afield to name but a few.
The link to make the nomination is http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/people/which-is-the-best-sports-club-in-ireland-1.2612225. The more nominations we get from our members and associates the better chance we have of winning. As well as the honourable title of “Best Sports Club in Ireland” we stand to win €5,000 or even €1,000 as runner up.
The closing date is Sunday 15th May 2016.
So let’s get nominating!!
