Railway Union Bowling Club

Founded in 1904, Railway Union is Dublin’s second-oldest bowling Club. The Club was a founder member of the “Irish Free State Bowling League”, which was later to become the The Bowling League of Ireland (BLI) in 1927.

Originally an all-male bowling club, lady members became part of the club in 1975 and today both ladies and men participate in BLI and LBLI league and cup competitions, as well as all-Ireland inter-club and inter-association competitions throughout the bowling season. Both our ladies and men’s teams have enjoyed successes over the years and while we always strive to win, the pleasure of playing is just as important. As far as we’re concerned, if players enjoy themselves, they play better – simple as that.

Contrary to popular opinion, lawn bowls isn’t just a retirement sport. While one of the advantages of the game is that players can continue to play and compete for many years.Bowls is an easy game to learn, but it can take years to perfect your game. The important thing is to get out there and give it a go!To get started, you will need a set of bowls and flat shoes/runners (i.e. no heels or ridges). Railway Union Bowling Club has a set of bowls for use by newcomers, as well as all the other bowling equipment needed for a game (jacks, mats, markers, measures and scoreboards).
