April will hopefully see the start of an accelerated roll out of the Covid-19 vaccines across the population and whilst the club remains closed to adult hockey at the moment under the Government’s restrictions, we have been planning for how we might safely return to some adult hockey over the coming months.
The recent announcement by the Government has provided a timeline for our youth hockey programmes to recommence, however a definitive date is not yet certain for when we can get back to on pitch adult training and non contact social hockey. Hopefully more clarity on this will follow in the coming weeks and late May or early June may be our target, provided the impact of Covid-19 on our hospitals and the vulnerable cohorts in our population can be addressed.
Once the Government restrictions confirm that it is safe to return to adult on pitch non contact hockey, we plan to organise training sessions and non contact social hockey for our members across the summer months. We will, of course, look to have all the necessary Covid-19 protocols and procedures in place to keep our members safe and meet the requirements of our governing body. Work is ongoing in the background at the moment to be ready to restart hockey as soon as we can safely do so.
We have had a planning session with our team captains and sports leaders in February to work through the detail of how we might organise such hockey and we will share the detail of our plans as soon as we have greater clarity from the Government on timelines and revisions to restrictions.
On behalf of the General Committee, we hope that you and your families are continuing to keep safe and healthy and we look forward to the days ahead where we can enjoy hockey in Park Avenue once again.
Further information once available will be shared on the Hockey Club Website
